Any time we receive information from middle schools we’ll update the Middle School Info tab and mention it in our weekly updates. Please click here to see a recent upload from Lively (formerly Fulmore) Middle School. In general, we are passers of information, but don’t know much more than you all about the various middle schools. Any questions should be directed to the points of contact listed for each school. Thanks!
Grades are officially due on October 15 for the first nine-weeks report card, which gives your child about two weeks to submit any corrections, missing, or make-up work. Any assignment with a grade below a 70% can be brought up to passing!! Progress reports went home this week, and your child should have a good idea of what they need to do to improve their grade, if applicable. Thanks! Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for Monday, October 14, though some teachers are offering conferences on an alternate timeline. You will meet with your child’s homeroom teacher. Be on the lookout for a signup link in your inbox. **If you’ve had a recent 504, ARD, or other meeting with your child’s teachers, that may count as the parent-teacher conference. Dillo Quest: information packets went home in Wednesday folders a few weeks ago. The due date for all necessary paperwork and payment ($85) is Friday, October 18. If you would like to pay online, check out this PDF for directions, or go directly to school cash online. Scholarships are available, so contact your child's homeroom teacher if needed. If you need another info packet, please check the Downloads tab of the 5th grade website, or you can ask Mr. Mayer for another copy. As a reminder, we are requesting a few Dillo Dads join us on the trip -- please see packet for interest form. It's very important that if your child takes any medication that the medication form is filled out completely. It's up to your child's homeroom teacher to manage all medications, and we need all information filled out fully. Finally, we aim for 100% Dillo Quest attendance, despite the fact that we know there is always some anxiety surrounding the experience. Please reach out if you or your child have questions or concerns. Please check out the 5th grade calendar for upcoming dates. Help your teachers get free books for their classrooms! Here is a link to digital Scholastic Book fliers. The code to type in for each reading/language arts teacher is below. Thank you so much for your support in our students’ reading experiences! Ms. Briles: NFT3N Mr. Wilder: NJ6F9 Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend! ~5th Grade Team

Hi everyone, happy Friday! We're finishing up our fifth week of school already, and are just over halfway through the first grading period. Thanks for reading our weekly updates!
Progress reports for all subjects will go home next week, either digitally or in paper format. Please make sure that the email address you have on file with the office is up-to-date so that all gradebook communications will be received. As a reminder, corrections and/or make-up work can be submitted for all assignments with grades below 70% to bring up to passing. We encourage students to take care of corrections ASAP so the end of the nine-weeks isn’t overwhelming. We will always go out of our way to help students who work hard and are diligent in this process! Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for Monday, October 14, though some teachers are offering conferences on an alternate timeline. You will meet with your child’s homeroom teacher, who will reach out with their conference schedule and how to sign-up in the next week or so! **If you’ve had a recent 504, ARD, or other meeting with your child’s teachers, that may count as the parent-teacher conference. Note from Ms. Briles about ELA homework for the Briles-Wirht-Mayer trio: click here. Green Team wants to give a shout out to all of the 5th graders helping take out the compost for PK-2nd, Essential Areas classrooms, the Office, Teachers Lounge, and many more!! If your child is interested in this important daily commitment, please have them talk to Ms. Briles. Students can choose to take out compost for their assigned location either before morning assembly, during recess (marathon laps excused), or during After School Care or before walking home. We are really starting to settle into class routines, work loads, and expectations. This year is definitely a transition into the middle school model, with larger class sizes, and more movement throughout the day. Self-advocacy is a huge skill that will carry your child through life, and is one we focus on developing a great deal in 5th grade. Self-advocacy can look like asking questions, working well with peers when given the opportunity, taking advantage of study hall opportunities, bringing all work/homework to class each day, completing make-up work/corrections in a timely manner, staying focused and engaged, participating in class as comfortable, etc. Thank you for your support! You can expect detailed Dillo Quest information to go home in next week's Wednesday folder. Be on the lookout! The first 5th grade math test is next Wednesday, Sept. 11 covering place value, rounding, estimation, and adding/subtracting decimals. A detailed math letter will be emailed out this coming Monday, so stay tuned! Your child is welcome to bring their math journal home if they'd like some extra practice, but we're doing lots of review in class. Mrs. Cotten is holding two after school science clubs that are open to any fifth grader: The Water Bear club on Mondays and the Animal Lovers Club on Tuesdays, both from 3-4pm. For more information, and to sign up, visit: TheDiscoveryDen.weebly.com. That's all for this week. Have a great weekend! ~5th Grade Team |
