We hope everyone had a fantastic Spring Break! The last quarter always goes by quickly with lots of extra happenings (testing, trips, fun events, projects, etc.). Thanks for sending your child back to school ready to learn!
STAAR testing is coming up the week after next (Math STAAR on Tuesday, April 9; Reading STAAR on Wednesday, April 10). Please don’t schedule appointments, travel, etc. on those days. All after-school tutoring will be cancelled that week. We are now in our fourth and final nine-weeks, and your child’s report card went home earlier this week. Please return envelopes when you can! 5th grade is going to the Bob Bullock Museum on Tuesday, April 23. More info. to come! Questions can be directed to Mr. Wilder ([email protected]). Please see attachment for information regarding the Murchison Science Olympiad and their upcoming open house. It's a great opportunity for kids to excel in science! It is fairly common for 5th graders to find themselves in sticky situations related to their personal technology and social media usage. We discuss “digital citizenship” quite often during SEL, but it’s a huge topic with near-infinite implications for kids (social, emotional, academic, etc). We highly encourage having thoughtful discussions with your child about your family’s values and expectations regarding safe and appropriate technology practice. Related, frequent check-ins to ensure safe usage are important; even if you trust your child to make good choices, who/what they are exposed to may not always be developmentally-appropriate. We are all learning how to best support kids in the ever-evolving world of technology, so healthy communication and caution are extremely important! Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend! ~5th Grade Team
