From all of the fifth grade teachers, welcome! We are so excited for the year ahead!
We are a team of six of the world's finest educators, and have worked together for quite a few years now ;) In addition to being humble (and occasionally sarcastic), we strive to work collaboratively, create diverse and rich learning experiences, and foster student independence as they look towards middle school. We do lots of mixing and matching of students, combine classes often, and have many grade-wide learning events, so your child will get to know every 5th grade teacher this year, and have friends across the grade-level. ***When you have a minute, the most important thing we need from you is to please complete our 5th grade GOOGLE FORM by clicking HERE or by visiting tinyurl.com/2019hillmtt. Nervous energy is to be expected this time of year, especially before 5th grade... your child will have more privileges, more responsibilities, maybe a little more work, but usually more fun than ever before! As a team, we are pretty easy going and flexible, and accommodate all kinds of needs in our classrooms. Holler if there's anything you need to discuss, but also give your child a few weeks to settle in and acclimate to our "way of life" in the Commons. Most anxieties are cured with a little time. We have high expectations, but also high levels of support and encouragement. This is a great year to practice "taking off the training wheels" so to speak, allowing your child more independence to make their own non-life-threatening mistakes (important!), but also celebrate successes. This will ease your child's transition into middle school tremendously. This website is the hub for all things 5th grade. On Fridays, we will post and email out a blog update detailing the week ahead. PLEASE read our updates -- they'll be brief and packed with vital information. Individual teachers might maintain separate websites or Blend courses for their content areas, but the most important dates and grade-level information will be housed here. Check out the calendar, read through our blog archives, and explore the other tabs if you want to get a better feel for our year ahead. More info. to come at BTSN on Thursday, Sept. 5 from 6:45-7:30pm.
