Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend! ~5th Grade Team Hi all -- we had a great time at Dillo Quest! This is a big update, so please read when you have a moment to read through it all.
Weekly after school tutoring/study hall is starting next week (October 28-30) from 3:00-4:00pm in the Commons. Pick up your child in the bus lane by the Commons, NOT the front car line. No buses provided. If your child walks home, or goes to Hill childcare, we will dismiss them at 4pm. Well behaved siblings can hang out (unsupervised) in the middle of the Commons. ***We go above and beyond to provide this meaningful instruction (often uncompensated), so we welcome students who will be focused and truly benefit from this time. Students who make it hard for others to learn will be asked not to return.*** Mondays:
B-M-W Trio: please read this note from Ms. Briles about upcoming due dates for students’ expository project. Check out the Middle School Info tab for tips on writing middle school application essays. Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend! ~5th Grade Team Hi 5th grade families! It was great meeting with many of you at conferences over the last week. Report cards have been finalized for the first nine-weeks and we anticipate them going home sometime next week.
Dillo Quest: it's next week, October 24-25! We'll have our big "what to pack " meeting during school on Monday (kids only), but there is a packing list on the downloads tab, and in the packet that went home a few weeks ago. Really just checking the weather and making sure your child has good outdoor clothes for the weather report is what matters. There are just a few kiddos with missing permission forms -- please send in on Monday! The Thursday morning of Dillo Quest, you will drop off your child at normal time, but they can stop by the Commons on the way to assembly to drop off their stuff. We'll return around 1:30pm Friday afternoon -- you are welcome to pick up your child right when we get back (there will be a sign-out sheet with each teacher). Or your child can go home like normal. We'll send out a few final reminders next week, but you can check out the downloads tab for a packing list, info, etc. Please check out the 5th grade calendar for upcoming dates -- including a visit on November 7 from some of the middle schools your child has the option of attending. That's all for this week, thanks for reading! ~5th Grade Team Quick blog this week....
Dillo Quest: information packets went home in Wednesday folders a few weeks ago. The due date for all necessary paperwork and payment ($85) is Friday, October 18. If you would like to pay online, check out this PDF for directions, or go directly to school cash online. Scholarships are available, so contact your child's homeroom teacher if needed. If you need another info packet, please check the Downlads tab of the 5th grade website, or you can ask Mr. Mayer for another copy. As a reminder, we are requesting a few Dillo Dads join us on the trip -- please see packet for interest form. It's very important that if your child takes any medication that the medication form is filled out completely. It's up to your child's homeroom teacher to manage all medications, and we need all information filled out fully. Finally, we aim for 100% Dillo Quest attendance, despite the fact that we know there is always some anxiety surrounding the experience. Please reach out if you or your child have questions or concerns. We are wrapping up the first nine-week grading period, with grades officially due on Tuesday, Oct. 15. Your child has about about a week to submit any corrections, missing, or make-up work. Any assignment with a grade below a 70% can be brought up to passing!! Progress reports went home two weeks ago, and your child should have a good idea of what they need to do to improve their grade; if not they know how to check their grades online. We're devoting some class time in math to work on corrections, both today and next week, but some encouragement from home would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for Monday, October 14, though some teachers are offering conferences on an alternate timeline. You will meet with your child’s homeroom teacher. Be on the lookout for a signup link in your inbox. **If you’ve had a recent 504, ARD, or other meeting with your child’s teachers, that may count as the parent-teacher conference. We are really starting to settle into class routines, work loads, and expectations. This year is definitely a transition into the middle school model, with larger class sizes, and more movement throughout the day. Self-advocacy is a huge skill that will carry your child through life, and is one we focus on developing a great deal in 5th grade. Self-advocacy can look like asking questions, working well with peers when given the opportunity, taking advantage of study hall opportunities, bringing all work/homework to class each day, completing make-up work/corrections in a timely manner, staying focused and engaged, participating in class as comfortable, etc. Thank you for your support! A detailed math letter will be emailed out this coming Monday, so stay tuned! Your child is welcome to bring their math journal home if they'd like some extra practice, but we're doing lots of review in class.
