We generally try to keep things brief, but this update is quite extensive (report cards, Dillo Quest, conferences, middle school updates....)! We appreciate you reading carefully and taking note of important information. This is a very busy time of year for us all!
We enjoyed meeting with so many of you during Parent-Teacher conferences this week (some are planned for this Saturday). Thank you for partnering with us to ensure a successful 5th grade year for your child! Report cards will be finalized on Monday, so TOMORROW is the deadline to submit all corrections and make-up work! 5th grade is challenging, and many students find they have to work much harder to maintain their grades from previous years. This is normal! The growing-pains of 5th grade usually lead to a successful and smooth transition to middle school. We're in this together! To check your child's grades online, please follow these directions. Homework -- we all have a love/hate relationship with it -- but it's important! Please encourage thoughtful completion each week. We give class time, provide optional Study Hall, and support in many other ways. We are being extra particular about showing work, and having all pieces of every assignment neatly attached and together at the time of submission. We appreciate your support! Dillo Quest is NEXT WEEK -- Thursday and Friday, October 18-19! We will host a packing info. session (kids only) next Monday before recess. Check out the downloads tab of the 5th grade website for extra forms, packing lists, etc. We need all forms and the $85 payment submitted ASAP! Contact [email protected] if you need financial assistance. Additional info. below....
Brad Clark, Murchison MS principal will attend the next Principal Coffee on October 25 at 7:45 am. It should be a great session for incoming middle school parents! From Ms. Briles (BMW Rotation only): All typed book letters (4) and 1st 9 weeks reading goal books to be read are due Oct. 19th which is the Friday of Dillo Quest. Please remind your kids that the logical due date has defaulted to Oct. 17th, the Wednesday night before we leave. From Ms. Cotten and Mr. Mayer -- Science Fair: All students have received a science fair packet as well as a briefing from their science teacher on the aspects of the packet and the expectations of the project. The science fair packet we sent home last Friday has step-by-step instructions on how to go through the scientific method and complete their science fair projects. It also includes the grading rubrics and FAQs. Take a look at the packet with your child and discuss how to plan and work on time management. Students are choosing a science experiment OR an engineering design project.
From Ms. Cotten -- After School Science Club: don’t forget to sign up! The club is getting full and we can’t wait to start on Monday after school! We will be carrying out a year long biodiversity survey of the microscopic animals that live in lichen and moss on our school’s campus. Students will learn how to use microscopes, make slides, collect accurate data, work with real scientists, and have fun exploring our world! To sign up, click on the link below and fill out the google form. The first day of the club is THIS upcoming MONDAY, so be sure to sign up soon! https://thediscoveryden.weebly.com/ Thanks for reading, and let us know if you have any questions or concerns! ~5th Grade Team
